History and Founder of
Palapa Marina Sint Maarten

During the years 1977 – 1984 Mr. Richard Anton Luckert has served the Island of Sint Maarten as Director of the Federal Finance Department as well as acting Lt. Governor. He decided 1n 1984, after having served the government of the Netherlands Antilles for 20 Years, to start a new career in real estate and project development.

In 1987 he started the construction of the Palapa Center and Marina in Simpson Bay. At that time there was very little business in the Simpson bay area.

In 1990 Mr. Luckert has constructed the first Mega Yacht Marina in Sint Maarten which has become a well know yacht destination in the Caribbean, for its personal touch and service to the yachts visiting the marina for the last 19 years.

In 2004 Mr. Richard Luckert has moved back to Curacao leaving the Palapa Center and Palapa Marina operations in the hands of his children Valeska and Kurt Luckert.

Once in Curacao he started the construction of the Palapa Curacao Resort and Marina, which construction is well underway. The opening of the Palapa Marina Curacao is expected to be in late 2010, whereby the Palapa atmosphere and service will also be obtained in the southern part of the Caribbean.
